The book is a world-class competitiveness report which analyses India’s competitiveness at the sub-national level. It introduces the methodology for measuring competitiveness and updates the 2014 rankings for 35 states and federal territories of India. It introduces “Masterplan for Strategic Regional Economic Development” proposed by Asian Competitiveness Institute, and incorporates the competitiveness methodology at the regional level across the five regions of India. It analyses the regions’ competitiveness, their comparative strengths and weaknesses for policy prescriptions to accelerate economic growth, in a balanced, fair and sustainable way. It profiles the growth of the tourism industry in the state of Tamil Nadu and the economic development of Bihar between 2000 and 2011. It employs the Geweke causality analysis to a subset of indicators used for the competitiveness analysis and the results enable a deeper understanding of the relationship between these indicators to facilitate development of targeted policies for these states. The comprehensive methodology measures competitiveness across four unique dimensions to provide an in-depth competiveness analysis for the 35 states and federal territories’ and the five regions of India.
